We organized a session to showcase the talents of two remarkable ladies Wang Fan, 24 years old from China and Jude, 30 years old from the Philippines, both living in Doha.
Fan a former teacher, but decided to change her profession when she came to Doha almost 1 year ago and started up a business she always wanted to have, a dessert shop called “Pandys”.
Just like passion for career exploration, Fan ventured into this new hobby of skateboarding. “It makes me look cool, and I like the feeling of it, so this was a perfect choice for fun” she says.
“Back in the days, children used to show off in front of me with their tricks and skateboard maneuvers thinking that I can’t do it, and indeed at that time I hadn’t picked it up yet. But when I practiced and set my mind on it, I caught up and exceeded my own expectations. I totally fell in love with it, and this is my history with skateboarding in a nutshell”. She added.
On the other side, bound by this mutual passion of ground surfing is Jude, a nurse whose been living in Qatar since 2011. In 2014 she started her new hobby looking for a platform to express herself in different styles. “If you like speed, you can play downhills. If you like free styling, you have a variety of boards for you to pick and choose according to your desired style.
Watching her fellow longboarders’ videos gives her inspiration and pleasure that equates to a best learning experience. “These videos keep up my momentum and I always learn something new from these observations”. She said.
When asked of her say if skates are strictly for boys, she added “No! It’s for everyone!”
As a nurse, her working hours are constantly shifting day and night, but she makes sure she always plays after morning shifts, and apparently this is a minor challenge for someone who has such a passion for this sport.
