How about we break the stereotypes about extreme sports are only for guys and let’s add to the damage the conventional thinking that engineering is a man’s job. Thrashing these two clichés in one stone! Or should I say in one Female Inline Skater!
Djana Maric, a structural engineer by profession and an inline skater by passion. Djana has been living here in Qatar for almost three years now and is also doing some freelance modelling. She’s originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina and came to GCC to practice her profession, Structural Engineering. Apart from designing beams, computing collateral loads or seismic loads, working with sledge hammer, hard hat, probes and other jargon words that only an engineer can understand, Djana also plays rollerblades or the inline skates.
Djana has been inclined to extreme sports, apart from inline skating, sometimes she’s doing wakeboarding and desert quad biking. She used to jump from bridges into lakes and rivers back in the day, she also did a 100m free fall in Spain. She dreams of experiencing sky diving and bungee jumping one day if there comes an opportunity. Truly an adrenaline empress! On top of these, she was also in Karate National Team for 10 years doing trainings on mountains and wild areas, you don’t want to mess with this girl.
To this day, she’s been riding her inline skates whenever she has free time. An after work session, a breather from her daily monotonous engineering work. She’s loves riding at MIA (Museum of Islamic Arts) Park, Sheraton Hotel Park and somewhere around in Katara. When we asked her why extreme sports like inline skating became her psychic relief, it’s just simply her character according to her. “I’m a hyperactive person, I like to take risk and try interesting things”, she said. She even added that she easily gets bored with comfortable things and places, so she needs to look for new adventures. “I need something totally different and inline skating is a perfect choice!” she exclaimed.
“Go out of your comfort zone and try something different. We all live once and even if you break some bone – who cares?! You still have 205 more, right!?” Her hardcore advice to other girls who are limiting themselves to what is conventional.
