Meet the new generation of skateboarding, skater kids! In this edition, we take a look at the next generation and their aspirations of pursuing extreme sports in the future.
Alexis Galadriel Perez Alagos, a four-year-old from the Philippines that has been skateboarding for almost a YEAR! While we were chatting with her, she told us “Last December, my daddy bought my brother his first skateboard for Christmas, but it was only this year that I started riding. At first, I wasn’t allowed to ride it but after my brother got a second skateboard, I got to practice a lot using the old one.
When we asked her what her favorite thing about skateboarding, she said “I get to do it with daddy and my brother!” isn’t she just adorable?
In our interviews, we usually ask what does the community think of what you are doing. In this case, we asked Alexis what does her friends at school think of skateboarding, but she still did not start school. Nonetheless, she is excited to show her skills to her new friends when she joins school next year!
As for the family, Alexis’s father is a huge supporter on skateboarding and always tries to find any skateboarding opportunities in Qatar for his son and daughter.
Our second skater kid is Mateo Hernandez, an 8-year-old from Honduras. He started trying out skateboarding two years ago, back when he lived in small beach town. But even after moving to Doha, he kept skating. “Before coming to Doha, I had a skate park near my home, there I saw many experienced skaters, and they inspired me to skateboard.”
Mateo enjoys skateboarding over any other sports because of thrill and speed, “It is the best feeling ever! I love the feeling of the adrenaline when I’m going down the ramps, very similar to surfing, which I also love doing!”
Mateo’s friends’ and family are excited for him to take this journey of potentially becoming a skater in the future, but in the meantime, they will continue to support him as a Skater kid.
