MARKETING EXPERT AND WATERSPORTS COMPANY CO-OWNER
FROM HUNGARY, MELINDA BEHUMI, IS INTO ANYTHING THAT RIDES ON
THE OCEAN IN THE DESERT. THIS ISSUE, SHE TELLS US HOW
SHE BREATHES “SHARING THE STOKE.”
Having grown up in the Gulf, I knew the sea would be an important part of my life when moving to Qatar for an advertising executive job – a connection with nature, my workout, a community. Being an ex-athlete my need to move and push myself has always been strong, it created a good balance with office work. Having already SUPed for a couple of years I bought a board in my first month in Qatar and got into training with some great people that later we become business partners with.
With some old sports related injuries 5 ACL knee operations and a slipped disc that
caused me to be paralyzed for a couple of months 10 years ago I knew I needed something low impact. something active and even combine my yoga practice and teaching with – yoga is an integral part of my life, being the method that helped recovery from injuries.
I found a way to unwind, to reset to feel in my element. It became a habit and grew on me, wanting to push further, faster become more skilled. I started watching videos of paddling in different conditions wind and surf, read up on training methods and completed my instructor training in Bali with ASI (Academy of Surfing Instructors, the world leading training organization in Surf, SUP and body boarding with headquarters in Australia and the UK ) 4 years ago. I was curious, I was having fun and overcoming fears, doubts I never knew I had. It started changing me.
AFTER 15 YEARS IN ADVERTISING IT WAS TIME AND A CALL FOR CHANGE – TO BRING MORE OF THE WATERSPORTS AND OUTDOOR STOKE TO PEOPLE.
