It started with swimming, his first element is his best ally – water. And after he re-surface the water, the spinning off his wheels over the hot asphalt of the pearl of the gulf, you might think that Michael Anderson is going to stop when he dismounts his bicycle. But he is up for more…as his feet touch the ground another part of his dream is kicking off as he runs and runs fueling up by heat and sweat. His mind is determined and so is his body, so much that the end of the road is just the beginning. At the end of his crawl the XTORK team was eagerly waiting to listen to his story of triathlon…
How long have you been residing Qatar?
I moved over to Qatar back in 2006, right when a massive event was happening, the Asian games. So sports and physical action was in the air and I saw this atmosphere as very inviting for someone with my aspirations
When did you start doing triathlon?
My first triathlon was in December last year, Al Ghariya resort! I did a super sprint, which is a shorter and faster version. It was a great experience and I ended up winning my category!
How did you start doing triathlon?
I’ve never previously thought about doing triathlons and stuff but since there aren’t any races for my main sport, motocross, I thought I’d give something new a try. Just happened by chance, I think I was going through my instagram feed at night and saw the advert pop up.. Pretty sure I entered at midnight hahaha.
What are the benefits of doing triathlon?
Other than being able to say you’ve completed a triathlon? Hahaha, I would definitely say that the benefits are seeing how far you are willing to push your mind and your body. It forces you to find things about how hard you’re willing to go before giving up which to me, is a aspect to know about ones self.
Can you consider triathlon as an extreme sport? Why?
For sure! It’s EXTREMELY hard! All jokes aside, you have to respect the sport and all the athletes that take part. Its no easy thing to do three different sports consecutively which all use different movements and skills, especially under race conditions. It’s a hurt you can’t explain, you have to experience it.
What are your future plans in regards with triathlon?
My future plans are to carry on training and doing as many triathlons as possible.. If the opportunity presents itself to compete at a big event in another country I would definitely be game for that!
How can you incorporate the Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid to triathlon?
The IONIQ is such a great car to have around.. Hopefully the hybrid concept kicks off in Qatar. Can you imagine a world where you’re running or cycling on the roads and don’t have to worry about inhaling all the fumes? Almost too good to be true right? Not with cars like Hyundai are producing.
Its such an easy car to drive around in and super comfortable, so when you’re driving to training or race day it almost feels like a luxury.
