T23 QATAR’S 1ST ‘LUDUS THROWDOWN’ CROSSFIT COMPETITION ATHLETES FROM ALL OVER DOHA WENT ON HEAD-TO-HEAD TO COMPETE IN
THE FIRST EDITION OF THE ‘LUDUS THROWDOWN’ CROSSFIT COMPETITION
ORGANIZED BY T23 QATAR AT THE PEARL ON SEPTEMBER 30.
The event gathered 56 athletes and 28 teams made up of male and female team mates each, said T23’s Operations Manager and XTORK MAGAZINE’S chief fitness columnist Jamie Thomas, who added that some of the participants were from the US Air Force stationed in Qatar.
Jamie said the first work out of the day (WOD 1), which was held on the Marina, was a max distance row and run, with partners alternating the two movements within a 17-minute time domain.
“While the yachts at the Marina provided a scenic backdrop, the sun was really beating down on the teams and this was a tough opening session for the athletes to kick start the day,” Jamie said.
For WOD 2, Jamie said the athletes moved inside the ‘box’ for the thrust ladder, where each athlete lifted a barbell or dumbbell for a set amount of repetitions within a 30 second window with the weight increasing in load each time until the athlete can no longer continue.
Finally, WOD 3 saw the athletes simultaneously work on burpees, wall balls, and box jump overs. The team that finished the most repetitions was awarded the most points, said Jamie.
Jamie said the ‘Ludus Throwdown’ CrossFit competition was T23 Qatar’s first competition since it opened on April 1 this year.
“We are already looking forward to and planning the next competition in early 2018. It was great to see so many competitors and spectators from all over Doha come down to support the event,” he said.
On Qatar’s growing CrossFit community, Jamie said: “It is constantly growing, and events like these, as well as the ones conducted by other CrossFit boxes in Qatar, bring the community together to have a good time and meet new friends.”
