On an early morning of March, we took the all new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross from Qatar Automobiles Co. for spin. A new creation of Mitsubishi Motors SUV. However this new vehicle seems to be a crossover between a stylish coupe and a dynamic SUV, if we may say. From its original Eclipse coupe, this car inherited those brilliant curves and elegance of the look and feel but they didn’t stop there of course. This stylish SUV displays athleticism in motion with its sculptured wedge sharp lines, every detail is crafted close to perfection. While the design is exquisite, the performance surely gave us a pleasing pleasure with the newly developed 1.5L direct-injection downsize turbo engine. And with these features that gave us high revolutions and strong acceleration, it only make sense that the new Eclipse Cross is also equipped with the latest active safety technologies like Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and Ultrasonic-Misaccelaration Mitigation System that predicted situations that could lead to accident and helped us prevented it. With great power, comes with great responsibility, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross surely live up to that principle.
We stopped for a while where Prince was playing and had a chat with him. Prince is a Filipino Registered Nurse working here in Qatar. When we asked him when did he started this rad sports of him, he said it was way back in 2013. His root in such board sports is skimboarding, “I used to skimboard together with my friends, hitting some local spots in our place.”, he said. And like the history of longboarding itself, whenever it’s off season or no swell at all, Prince and his friends will hit the road for some concrete surfing instead using their longboards. A crossover from surfing to skateboarding, the chill vibes that surfing gives plus the adrenaline rush that skateboarding offers that’s longboarding. For Prince, aside from the obvious health benefits that every other sport gives us, longboarding taught him to be consistent in every ride, perseverance in every run and as he said, “Longboarding promotes camaraderie in the group.” The longboard community in Qatar is growing organically, the group now merely consist of 40 active riders. And these diverse riders are either riding freestyle or downhill longboarding. Prince like it fast and furious, for him downhill longboarding is more rad compared to freestyle/dancing. Racing each other on a downhill route on a board with four wheels with no breaks at all and going 40-60kph, that’s how Prince is living his life in the fast lane. High speed sports like this requires appropriate safety gears. Sliding gloves are required, downhill riders are using these special gloves with pucks on the palm to slow them down while sliding on some curves and hair pin turns. Helmet is a must! You can’t go wrong for protecting your melon! With the speed of 60kph downhill without anything but a board on a cement or asphalt track, the injuries you can get for bailing will be unimaginable if you don’t wear protective gears.
